Vascular Dementia: Warning Signs
It is important to know and understand the warning signs of vascular dementia. Realistically, an individual may be unaware that they have developed dementia. Or, they may be hiding the facts.
If you observe sudden changes, or the development of any of the following symptoms in a family member or loved one, it may signal the onset of vascular dementia:
• Confusion and short-term memory loss
• Wandering or lost in familiar places
• Shuffling gait
• Loss of bladder or bowel control
• Failure to thrive
• Laughing or crying inappropriately
• Difficulty following instructions
• Problems managing money
Always keep in mind…that frequent forgetfulness, mood swings and other behavioral changes are not a normal part of the aging process. These issues can have a significant impact on one’s health and well-being. And this behavior may be driven by underlying causes which require professional diagnosis.
