Trends in Aging
There are many elderly issues relating to retirement, health, and aging. Here are some questions to ponder:
1) Where to live? Move to a warmer climate in order to avoid harsh winters?
2) Downsize the house? Eliminate stairs, and have living and laundry all on ground level?
3) Is proximity to a hospital facility important?
4) When to retire? At full social security retirement age? Earlier? What are the financial repercussions of this decision?
Research has clearly shown evidence that aging has manifested many health issues. Advances in medicine and technology, for example, have allowed many heart attack or stroke victims to survive and live longer years. But, living longer does not mean healthier.
Data shows that the seniors reaching retirement age…
~ Have higher rates of problems with thinking and memory.
~ Rate their own health as “fair” or “poor” more often than their predecessors.
~ Have more problems with the daily tasks of living, such as shopping, taking medications, and getting out of bed.
And, of course, the question that can not be answered: What is the “actual time remaining” for any elder?
