Committing to Home Care Services: Go Slowly
Elderly clients may be content, or resigned, with how they are aging. One day simply leads to the next.
Our experience has shown that the best approach to bolster transition toward an acceptance of care services may be to simply “start slowly”. Don’t overwhelm your elderly parents with momentous decisions. Refrain from a discussion of endless weeks and months of service needs. Rather, position home assistance as a benefit for today, or this week. This allows the elder to maintain control, and not feel burdened by a long term commitment. Initially, set minimal and flexible expectations. Get to know the senior(s), their daily routine and habits, within their living environment.
Start Slowly With Home Care Services
Due to our experience, Home Care Partners staff provides insight to the client as to how we can best help. Skilled caregivers can positively effect an elder‘s mood; provide assurance that current medications are on schedule; extend a hand on household chores such as vacuuming and laundry; assist on meal preparation and clean-up; and confirm that meals have been eaten.
Perhaps most importantly, our care staff utilizes a daily record keeping system that documents observances and environment – which the extended family can access to review the activities of elderly parents, while monitoring their ongoing health issues.
